Self Portrait with a Snake
2009
Oil
30"x40"
Self portrait. This image of myself with a snake, that appeared in an earlier work, is also titled "Once a snake, always a snake" Images of snakes are found in art through out the ages, maybe out of biblical association. But my snake does not epitomize evil, but protection, as it forms a symbol of luck around me. But always watch out because once a snake always a snake! This painting was recently chosen for exhibit in the Arts on Fire XIV exhibit at the Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica Ca. The exhibit dates are April 9 to May 9, 2010. The juror for the exhibit was Philip E. Linhares, Chief Curator of Art, Oakland museum of Ca. Reproductions are available.
